Getting Sidetracked
June 24, 2022
By Melody King

It’s pretty easy to get sidetracked these days; we all have so much going on in our lives. And if you’re a person who has ADHD or other focus issues to begin with (*cough*me*cough*), it’s incredibly easy. Then add literal life-or-death emails to the Distraction Salad, and you find yourself disorganized, not finishing tasks, etc. This is where I’ve been the last couple of months since our launch.

And I’m not a person that won’t ask for help - I ask all the time! But getting back to people, training them on the systems, vetting them, all of this takes time away from helping animals. But I’ve realized that sometimes a step back is necessary to make greater progress. There will be days where I will be unavailable, and I will need people that I trust to handle situations. So I’m making prioritizing, well, a bigger priority.

I began this group to help the community with information and resources, particularly independent rescuers, and to provide foster homes for some animals. I don’t have the staff or financial resources to be a shelter (yet!) and so I need to prioritize getting that information out of my head and get it online. The more people that are doing independent rescue, the more animals that can be saved.

So if you’ve reached out, whether TO help or FOR help, and I haven’t responded, please keep reaching out. I’m overwhelmed with requests right now, and sometimes emails just end up buried, but I haven’t forgotten about you. And along those same lines, if you’ve already found another resource to help, please let me know that as well.

As always, thank you so much for all of the support!
